Guest room entertainment for a five-star Fitzrovia hotel

The Hotel

Set in Fitzrovia, the five-star Newman Hotel offers 81 stylish rooms, suites and apartments in the heart of London.

The boutique hotel pays homage to it’s vibrant neighbourhood, incorporating subtle nods to the area’s artists, poets and legendary characters.

Contemporary luxury and meticulously curated interiors flirt with a fine food and drink experience. Brasserie Angelica serves modern European food throughout the day, while the basement Gambit Bar supplies cocktails, small plates, and live music. Two private dining rooms provide space for smaller gatherings and events.

An entire floor is dedicated to wellness, with a hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room, salt therapy room, and 24-hour fitness suite. The Penthouse adds its own private terrace, sauna and cold plunge, extending the hotel’s emphasis on relaxation into its accommodation.

The Brief

The Newman’s management company, Kinsfolk & Co approached airwave connect to deliver a guest room entertainment system that reflected the hotel’s five-star standards.

The brief was clear: give guests straightforward access to their own content and premium Sky programming through a single, easy-to-navigate TV interface.

The Technology

airwave connect installed the television reception infrastructure for the purpose-built hotel’s guest room entertainment system, bringing together flat-to-wall-mounted Samsung hospitality TVs, Uniguest Hub and a Sky Select service.

43, 55, and 65-inch Samsung BU800 hospitality displays were integrated into each guest room, offering ultra high definition resolution, on a slim, panel.

Uniguest Hub brings television, personal streaming and hotel information into a single interactive platform. Through one on-screen interface, guests can choose what to watch, access their own content and find information about the hotel’s facilities and services.

Branded menus and information pages carry The Newman’s carefully considered identity through to the guest room screen. Clear navigation makes it easy to explore what the hotel offers, giving guests a convenient source of information throughout their stay.

For the hotel team, the platform provides central control over content and presentation. Staff can update information across guest rooms from one place, keeping it current and consistent without having to adjust individual televisions.

The Sky Select service adds premium programming, delivered centrally through Sky Bright Box. With no separate Sky box required in each room, the system reduces in-room equipment and simplifies management while broadening the entertainment available to guests.

The Outcome

Guest casting was delivered through Google Chromecast technology, giving guests a simple way to stream their own content on the in-room television.

A premium Sky TV service was implemented in guest rooms via Sky’s Bright Box technolology.

Sky Bright Box is the central distribution system behind Sky Select for hotels. It receives Sky television channels via coaxial cabling or an IP network without needing a separate Sky box in each bedroom.

For guests, it provides familiar entertainment, films and sport. For hotel teams, it brings the equipment into one compact, remotely manageable system, reducing space requirements and energy use compared with traditional racks of equipment.

Behind the screens, airwave connect refreshed RF headends where required and installed the network, control and video-distribution equipment needed to support the service. Project management, testing and training were included, giving hotel teams a clear route from installation through to day-to-day use.

Uniguest Hub has benefited us a lot, it works seamlessly, it's very user friendly, it's good to use and easy to navigate.

The Newman’s guest room entertainment system brings television, premium content, personal streaming and hotel information together in an experience that carefully reflects the hotel’s identity. Guests can move easily between choosing what to watch and exploring the facilities and services available during their stay.

For the hotel team, central control makes content easier to maintain, while centrally distributed Sky programming removes the need for additional boxes in guest rooms. The result is a consistent, carefully presented service for guests, with straightforward day-to-day management for staff.
