SCCI Alphatrack collaborate with Virgin Media O2 in the purchase and implementation of a rainwater harvesting system
The Meserani Project is a grassroots charity dedicated to transforming young people's access to education throughout East Africa. Many in this region face barriers to schooling due to poverty, family circumstances, and limited educational infrastructure. Though relatively small in scale, the Meserani Project has made a significant impact since its 2009 launch.
SCCI Alphatrack partner, Virgin Media O2 (VMO2), is a long-term supporter of the project, having worked with the charity for many years.
In January 2025, a team of 15 volunteers from VMO2 travelled to Tanzania to assist in the implementation of critical upgrades within a school. These include the installation of projectors and blinds, security lights, solar panels, and wired plug sockets into the site's classrooms and buildings.
Additionally, VMO2 painted all existing classrooms, and purchased 500 trees, providing shade, and fruit for the students and teachers.
A Helping Hand
Recognising that small sums of money can make a big difference, VMO2 approached SCCI Alphatrack, asking for a small donation to assist with their January 2025 trip.
It was a very easy 'yes,' and SCCI Alphatrack was honoured to contribute a seemingly meagre £437—enough to provide a rainwater harvesting system for the school's dining area.
A Small Gesture, A Big Difference
Rainwater harvesting is a sustainable and cost-effective method of collecting and storing rainwater in water scarce environments.areas; it improves water supplies for drinking, cooking, and sanitation, reducing dependence on external sources. This not only improves daily life for students and staff, but creates self-sufficiency and resilience in the face of water shortages.
Efforts like these are helping to create lasting change, providing practical solutions to everyday challenges. A simple plaque on-site acknowledges SCCI Alphatrack's contribution to this initiative, but the real impact is felt in the day-to-day lives of the school community.
A quiet but meaningful step forward, showing how such a small gesture can make such a big difference.
