Keynote Address: Dame Judith Hackitt’s Call to Action
In a jam-packed day of standout moments, Dame Judith Hackitt's mesmerising keynote speech was perhaps the highlight.

A renowned engineer and regulatory expert, Dame Judith is best known for leading the Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety (The Hackitt Report) in response to the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017. (Click here to read the report.)

Her talk, "Building a Safer Future: Fire Safety, Time to Act and Step up the Pace" offered a compelling perspective on the state of safety standards, the need for industry-wide accountability, and the pressing urgency for change. She challenged stakeholders not just to listen—but to act.

Seven years after Grenfell, her message was clear: change is too slow, and accountability is non-negotiable. A 2024 public inquiry reaffirmed systemic failures—weak regulations, poor oversight, and an industry culture that has too often prioritised cost-cutting over safety.

This isn’t just about high-rises—it’s about trust, resilience, and safer homes for all. The time for excuses is over. Let’s build a safer future, together... . Dame Judith Hackitt, DBE FREng
Key Takeaways from Dame Hackitt's Address:

🔹 A new regulatory framework demands competence, responsibility, and a focus on real safety, not just box-ticking compliance.

🔹 The industry must step up, collaborate, and lead the change—rather than waiting for more regulation to be imposed.

🔹 Proactive risk management, transparency, and integrity must replace outdated, flawed practices that continue to put lives at risk.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, exhibited, and contributed to making the Industry Connect such a success. We're already looking forward to The Industry Connect 2.
