Linden Homes
SCCI Alphatrack supplied and installed high-speed broadband, Freeview, Freesat and Sky TV in their new-build estate at Millbrook Park, London NW7 - part of a development of 2,000 new build homes at Mill Hill.
The Challenge
Linden Homes approached SCCI Alphatrack, looking for the supply, installation and maintenance of high-speed broadband, Freeview, Freesat and Sky TV in their new-build estate at Millbrook Park, London NW7 - part of a development of 2,000 new build homes at Millbrook Park, Mill Hill.
The site is of much historical importance, especially from a military perspective, and dates back to the 1800’s. Some of the period architecture has been retained - and can be still seen with a keen eye throughout the modern development of new homes.
The new system was designed to support the aesthetic needs of such a prestigious development, marrying the requirements of today's high-tech world with yesteryears’ architecture.
Alongside a requirement for high-speed broadband, there was a need for television and radio services from both terrestrial and satellite sources.
The Solution
Making it possible to offer three services of terrestrial, satellite and broadband, SCCI Alphatrack designed a four output GPON (passive optical network) with fibre to the home, supporting 1310nm 1490nm for data and 1310nm for television channels.
The network supports all new properties being built by Linden Homes, and meets all resident communication needs. Indeed, from the moment the new home owners move in, all technology was installed and ready - meaning no wait for BT or other providers to connect services..
Alphatrack installed a single Zhone MXK 190 GPON OLT model with 8 GPON ports. The ITU-T standard GPON technology provides 2.5 Gbps downstream bandwidth and 1.25 Gbps upstream bandwidth over the passive optical network on each the used ports. Each new home has a Zhone indoor Active Ethernet GE 2400 Series ONT installed for high-speed broadband services.
The system is remotely-managed from our Head Office in Harlow, where outages can be identified, speed upgrades & downgrades can be managed, and a 24/7 helpline is available to support all user needs.
Digital television services were deployed using Fibre IRS (fibre integrated reception system) utilising eye-safe laser technology and with the seemingly limitless bandwidth offered by fibre optic cable.
The fibre integrated reception system brings together all available satellite, digital terrestrial, digital audio and FM Radio services and our bespoke designed system removes all of the constraints of traditional power-hungry amplified switched systems, providing communal property or housing developments with a reliable future-proof distribution infrastructure, fit for the 21st Century.
Conclusion
The deployed system, although technically challenging and complicated in design, delivers all requirements to its users in a simple and reliable way. It offers super-fast broadband via fibre (considered to be the delivery medium of the future) together with television and radio services from satellite and terrestrial sources - all on the one network.
We had major problems with residents' broadband connectiviuty being delayed by BT when initially moving in. SCCI offered a fantastic solution to this, with broadband available from the very first hour of occupation. Excellent solution, we even managed to use it to sell a few houses!"
