Eastside Plaza, Gunwharf Quays

SCCI Alphatrack implement its 4 Fibre solution in Eastside Plaza's 315 dwelling development in Portsmouth's Gunwharf Quays.

The Development

Eastside Plaza is an award winning residential development located in Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth; comprising of 315 residential apartments including studios, 1, 2 and 3-bedroom apartments and penthouses, the site sits within three adjoining blocks:

  • The Blue Building - five storeys high with 57 apartments
  • The Crescent - 11 storeys with 117 apartments
  • 1 Gunwharf Quays - also known as 'The Lipstick Tower,' the centrepiece, featuring 29 storeys with 141 apartments

Eastside Plaza is an integral part of the vibrant Gunwharf Quays, nestled amidst its shops, restaurants,  casino, cinema and the Spinnaker Tower.

The Project

Eastside Plaza approached SCCI Alphatrack, looking for a low footprint, future proof fibre solution to satisfy the exacting demands of its residents.

SCCIA recommended its revolutionary 4 Fibre technology – a platform that provides access for up to four internet service providerseach with their own dedicated fibre cable, installed through only one cable loom and one penetration to each apartment.

With the aesthetics of the development in mind, and in accordance with a brief that specified no visible cables, trunking or boxes, SCCIA opted to implement an internal solution, using internal risers and space above the ceilings for the cable routing.

After identifying suitable locations for the distribution cabinets, SCCIA ran multi-fibre cables up and down risers, and through ceiling voids, (cutting access holes in the ceiling where required, to avoid surface UPVC cable trunking).

Cables were terminated and spliced all the way in to the communication cupboard of each apartment, ready for the internet service provider to connect through to the consumer premise equipment (CPE) in each property, when the resident takes service. The final connection made using (almost invisible) invisilight fibre cables from the communication cupboard in the apartment to the CPE

The system provides fully independent access up to top four full fibre broadband ISP’s – connected “all the way” in to 315 apartments, connected to the comms cupboard within each apartment. Any ISP wishing to service the property, can do so easily, without running any cables through the common areas.

All distribution cabling is linked back to a single position in the telecoms room in the basement,  where the ISP can service all 315 flats without running another cable.

On completion of the installation, all firestopping has been completed and certified, with no need for more fibre cables, when an ISP wishes to service the building.

Our estate was delighted with SCCI's 4Fibre solution, providing choice to our residents and future proofing our estate.
