4 Fibre Shortlisted at Connected Britain Awards
On Wednesday, 11th September, the annual Connected Britain Awards took place, with 4 Fibre shortlisted for both the Barrier Removal and Project Rollout categories.
Following our double win at the UK Fibre Awards in June, we were hopeful of continuing our success. While it wasn’t our day, we would like to extend our congratulations to Glasgow City Council’s Telecoms Unit and CityFibre, the well-deserved winners of the two awards!
We are incredibly proud of our team, especially for their work on our 4Fibre installation at Charecroft Estate in Hammersmith and Fulham, which was the focus of our award entries. At Charecroft Estate, the council was initially cautious about approving multiple ISP installations due to concerns over fire safety and the building’s integrity. However, in September 2023, they approved our 4 Fibre solution, which enables four ISPs to share a single installation. This approach minimised disruption, reduced building penetrations by 75%, and preserved compartmentation and fireproofing.
As a FIRAS-accredited team, we ensured the highest safety standards through passive fire protection. We worked closely with Hammersmith and Fulham Council and J Bayliss Consulting to meet all regulatory requirements and address residents’ concerns, especially in light of past fires. The rollout, completed in October 2023, successfully delivered ultrafast fibre to 400 residents, overcoming significant regulatory and physical challenges. A testimonial from Jennie Bayliss underscores the project’s success.
Thank you to Connected Britain for a fantastic event, and once again, congratulations to Glasgow City Council’s Telecoms Unit, CityFibre, and all the finalists!
The Charcroft Estate of four multi-storey tower blocks is a challenging scheme for any re-wiring project but developing 4 Fibre means we only had to wire the building once. We are pleased with the reduction in deployment time whilst keeping the integrity of the building and being kept up to date with the progress of the works.Jennie Bayliss, J Bayliss Consulting
